A man was beaten by a gathered crowd after, officials said, he is believed to have stabbed two men in a fight that happened outside City Hall on Sunday night.
According to police, officers responded to the intersection of 15th Street and John F. Kennedy Boulevard at about 9:07 p.m. on Sunday, at City Hall, after a report of a person with a weapon.
As officers arrived, police found that a crowd became involved in an altercation “punching and kicking” a man who is believed to have stabbed two people during a fight.
Witnesses told police that the incident began when the suspected attacker was involved in an argument with a 50-year-old man when he “produced an unknown sharp object” and struck the victim several times in the back of the head.
Following this attack, officials said, a gathered crowd of about 10 to 12 people got involved, punching and kicking the suspected attacker until he fell to the ground.
However, the suspect fled the area following the attack.
During this fight, a 37-year-old man was also stabbed in his left arm.
Both victims were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, police said.
An investigation into this incident remains ongoing.
